Ispahani Public School and College is an institution of pride. It is situated in a picturesque location of Cumilla Cantonment.

In September, 1962, at the initiative of Brigadier Ghulam Mohammad, the then Station Commander, the institution began as an English Medium School under the name of “Cantonment Public School”. This name was subsequently changed to “Mainamati Public School” in 1965. This change was felt necessary in order to avoid confusion which often misled the Education Department to believe that the school was being financed by Cantonment Board.

The initial stage was very crucial. Fund was very inadequate; no civil accommodation of any description was available. The school was temporarily housed in a neighbouring High School (Cantt. High School). One of the barracks of the Engrs’ Line was commissioned as Boys’ Hostel and a few OR Qtrs. were re-appropriated as Quarters for teachers. The Girls’ hostel started at the initial stage but it was subsequently abandoned.

All these rented buildings caused heavy burden on the fund; Tk. 73,000.00 had to be paid as rent for a short period of twenty-five months. It was through the efforts of Brigadier A. O. MITHA, the then Station Commander, TK. 50,000.00 was received from GOC’s Educational fund & Tk. 1,50,000.00 from the central government.

It was through the efforts of Brigadier A. O. MITHA, Mr. M. M. ISPAHANI (Managing Director, Ispahani Group of Industries) was associated with the institution. This association was really a turning point and the institution started flourishing very rapidly because of the magnanimous donation from the Ispahani Group of Industries and personal care and guidance of Mr. M. M. ISPAHANI.

The Ispahani Group of Industries has so far donated Tk. 13,33,000.00. In addition, one hundred chairs and desks, seventy-seven cots were donated by Jute Manufacturing Co., Chittagong at the instance of the great Donor Mr. M. M. ISPAHANI. In recognition of these magnanimous help the Management rightly re-named the institution as Ispahani Public School.

Mr. Sakwat Hossain, founder Principal had the fortune to enjoy encouraging guidance from Brigadier A. O. MITHA, Mr. M. M. ISPAHANI and his consultant Engineers M/S. Asgar& Co., in preparing blue-print of a magnificent building the foundation stone of which was laid by Major General Fazal Muqueem Khan, the then GOC, 14 Division on September 28, 1966.

During occupation period the school remained closed and it suffered colossal loses in respect of building, furniture, equipment and properties which were damaged/lost. Eleven teachers were killed and Lt. Col M. K. AMIL (Retd) who succeeded the founder principal on 10th August, 1969 fled during Liberation Struggle. Grants and donation from the Ispahani ceased due to nationalization of their industries. The fund balance was Tk. 10,340.00 against outstanding debt of Tk. 64,845.00. Thus the institution neither had fund nor adequate manpower or the staff to continue at this critical period.

After liberation war, the institution re-started on 12th February, 1972 with one resident student and eight local students. Under the inspiring guidance of Colonel Ziaur Rahman, BU, PSC (former Major General and President of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh), the then Station Commander, the Management appointed Mr. Md. Abdus Sattar Mondol and a few teachers and employees. They devoted themselves in reviving the institution to its former position of pride and glory. By the Grace of Allah and their efforts they were crowned with success.

In January 1975, The institution was upgraded by merging the college section which was initially established as a separate entity under the name Cantt. College. The College section has since then been affiliated by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Comilla.

The result of the institution has been all through satisfactory both SSC & HSC level. During 1963-77, out of 174 SSC candidates, 54 passed in 1st Division, 82 in the 2nd Division and 32 in the pass Division; percentage of pass being 97%.
